Kitten Care

So you have decided to adopt a kitty. Congratulations. Cats are the most popular pet in the world for a good reason - they're easy to look after and don't depend on us too much emotionally. But you should still know what you are doing. Why not take a look at the following resources to learn the ropes?

Orphan kittens
Before you take home orphan kittens, you should be sure they were actually abandoned by their mother. If they are very young, you may need to bottle-feed them and help them urinate. Please read thisKitten Care Handbook from Kitten Rescue, a group in Los Angeles.

The most important concerns for young kittens are warmth and cleanliness. In winter, you will need to use a hot-water bottle. When preparing a formula, avoid using cow milk, which cats cannot digest properly. Buy some formula from a vet or pet store, or use goat milk as a base. If you do not have any formula on hand use thisEmergency Recipe.

You may find a plastic-tip syringe easier to use than a bottle.
