Happy Tails
AMYLIA AND SOL
The day Sol came into my life was one of the happiest of my time in
Taiwan. As an ex-pat and foreigner in Taiwan, life sometimes feels
isolating or lonely. At first, I wasn't sure if I could provide for a
cat in my studio apartment with my crazy teaching schedule at the
university, but once I met the little guy, I knew there was no saying
no. Visiting Sol in the foster-care home was a touching experience. He
crawled right up onto my lap and curled in on me. He purred and played
and didn't seem scared at all. We connected, and I knew, even before
the adoption papers were signed and sealed, that the little guy and I
would become fast friends.
Now, I have a new companion in my life, and he is
a source of joy and comfort to me. I can't thank Animals Taiwan enough
for bringing him to me. Though I'm a teacher by trade, Sol has taught
me quite a bit, as well, mostly by example. He is wise beyond his age
(see photo attached for proof of him looking smart!) When he sleeps on
me, cuddled at my head or feet, I learn how to relax and just be in the
moment. He teaches me to enjoy the feeling of just being still. When
he's playful and rambunctious, he teaches me how to find joy and fun in
the simple pleasures–a paper bag, a flower, a leaf. He teaches me how
to communicate without words. When I wake up, he is there, gently
purring and waiting to be fed.
Sol
When he's about to get the “kitty crazies” as I
call them (his late night romp through the apartment destroying all in
his path), I can see it in his eyes as they widen and darken. He has a
way about him that is both playful and calm.
We've already navigated the MRT system together,
taken subway rides, cabs and various taxis, scooter rides and gone
through Taipei by foot. He's a trooper, and as we prepare for our first
airplane trip to America together, I know that he and I embark on what
will be one of many adventures for us. I am grateful to Animals Taiwan
for the gift of Sol. He's given me just as much, if not more, than I
have given him over the past few months.
Sol
