AnimalsTaiwan is going to obtain Charitable Status

AnimalsTaiwan recently received some very exciting news! On October 12th, the Taiwanese government accepted our application to become a charitable organization. Many of you who have been volunteering with AnimalsTaiwan for some time may know that we have been working on this application for a long time. This is big news for AnimalsTaiwan and will open up many new doors for us as we continue to develop and expand.

A huge thank you needs to go out to the Pamir Law group, who helped us process our application. We could not have done it without them. Another big thank you must go to Pat Farr (who recently moved to New Zealand). Pat volunteered an enormous amount of her time into getting the application processed and working with Pamir.

Now that the government has accepted our charity application, there are so many things AnimalsTaiwan must complete and submit before the government grants us the official charity status. We need to collect a list of at least 100 names so that these may act as members to our non-profit organization.  AT also needs to recommend an odd number of directors (at least seven) and seek out one Board of Directors.  There should be at least three membership meetings conducted for each stage of the selection process.  Please remember that these steps are mandatory in order for any organization to successfully obtain charity status in Taiwan.
AnimalsTaiwan is asking you to assist us in completing the membership process us by becoming our member.   For a nominal fee, members are eligible to participate in important decision-making meetings that will influence the future of AnimalsTaiwan.  For example, once the government registers us as a charity organization in Taiwan, AnimalsTaiwan members can determine how government and corporate funding may be applied to assist us in our CNR and other projects we may take on; and how AnimalsTaiwan's missions may be publicized in a way we could not do when we did not have charitable status.  But before any of this can happen, AnimalsTaiwan needs at least 100 memberships.  If you want to become involved as a member, please email for the membership pledge forms.

Help Us Fly Taiwan Strays To A Bright Future

Grandma Nitti's Rooftop September 8th

A fundraiser was held to send four of our dogs to the USA. Grace, Bliksem, Honey, and Laifoo were four dogs rescued from the streets of Taipei by four concerned dog lovers in AT. Grace is blind, Bliksem has three legs, and Honey and Laifoo could not find homes in Taiwan. However, they got lucky and found loving and caring homes in the USA. The fundraiser was held on the Grandma Nitty’s rooftop. Thanks to everyone who showed up and contributed. Honey recently flew to the USA and the others are on their way. Have a look at the adoptions section of the newsletter to see some pics of Honey’s new home!

ANIMAL RIGHTS RALLY

October 14th,
Council of Agriculture, Taipei

On October 14th in Taipei, a rally was organized in reaction to a recent incident involving the de-skinning of a dog by a man in Taiwan. The rally included people from a number of animal welfare groups as well as many concerned citizens who were upset about what had recently happened.

The main purpose of the rally was to call for the arrest of the man who committed this horrible act and draw attention to animal abuse in Taiwan. A petition demanding more humane treatment of dogs was presented to the government. Some of the items listed on the petition included: the arrest of the perpetrator, the establishment of an Animal Police, neutering stray dogs instead of killing them, law enforcement to control animal trap purchases, and law enforcement to manage breeding centres.

A number of AT volunteers attended the rally, including Sean and Rita. Sean was asked to speak at the rally and talked about how great it is to see people rallying to support animal rights. He also pointed out that Taiwan is a great country and such abuse cases do not belong here.
