Me and Wotsit By Heidy Ashlyn-Mayo
When I was young, my family fostered children for over 15 years. Most of my friends found that it was strange to open up your home and family to strangers. It was never strange to me, and I always learned something from all of my new siblings. To me, fostering animals is very similar. I love animals so much, and seeing animals abused, without homes and sick and injured makes me feel very sad and angry. Instead of doing nothing about it, I thought my dog and I could open up our home and hearts to dogs that need to be loved. We certainly haven't regretted this decision.
Since Wotsit came to our home we have fallen in love with him. My dog has learned to be more patient and has calmed down quite a bit. Wotsit has learned from her how to love humans and be more sociable with other dogs. Watching them play together and walking together is very rewarding. When I come home from work I am greeted by double the amount of love.
When I first saw Wotsit, he looked so scared, but now he's very friendly and follows me all around the house. He has started to learn how to sit on command and loves to shake paws. He is such an easy going dog. All of my friends agree he is a model dog. He is so well behaved and sweet. He has shown me that love for an animal comes in different shapes and sizes. My dog and I hope that he can go to a home where he is loved just as much, and we hope that we can share our love with more dogs who need companionship and love, before they go to their very own home. We hope there are many other people who can open their homes to other animals who need shelter, food and most of all love. It is an amazing opportunity to see an animal change from being scared to feeling so safe and secure. I highly recommend animal lovers to really help animals in many different ways. There is an abundance of animals that need love and home. Even if it is temporary, it still makes a difference.
